Visiting Bach Ma National Park from Da Nang: Distance, Hai Vong Dai Altitude and Choosing One Route

Bach Ma National Park was established in 1991 with an initial area of 22,031 ha and expanded to 37,487 ha in 2008; the Hai Vong Dai summit, at about 1,450 m, looks down on Lang Co Bay (according to the national nature conservation information site). The Sun Travel rate table lists Da Nang to the park at about 65 km and 1.5 hours each way.

Working out the time for a day trip

Both directions at the table figure come to about 3 hours in the car from Da Nang. From Hoi An, the rate table has a Hoi An to the foot of Bach Ma entry of about 95 km and 1.5 hours each way, so also about 3 hours both ways. An illustration, not a fixed schedule: leave at 06:30 and you reach the foot of the mountain around 08:00, and your time to leave is worked back from when you want to be home, plus the walking time of the route you choose.

Walking times and the conditions of each route are set by the park’s management, so this guide gives no figures; ask the management before you travel.

Choose one route instead of all of them

Three names often come up when planning: Hai Vong Dai, the Five Lakes (Ngu Ho) and Do Quyen waterfall. Each has its own paths, difficulty and opening conditions, which can change with the season and the weather. Choose one main route, ask the management about open paths, which vehicles may go to the higher areas and the fitness required, and only then fix the departure time. Heavy rain can change which routes are open, so check the forecast before you go.

The car waiting, and the return

The entry for this route is one way from Da Nang to the park. Waiting while you walk and the return are not in the table and are confirmed separately. Where the car may stop inside the park is set by the management; cars can enter the gates of hotels and resorts to pick you up where you stay in Da Nang or Hoi An.
