Going to Ly Son from Da Nang in two days and one night has three parts: a private car from Da Nang to Sa Ky Port, a high-speed boat to the island, and two days on the island with the trip home in the opposite order. Operators run roughly 7:30 to 15:30, there are several of them and schedules change by season and sea conditions, so this guide does not quote boat times or ticket prices. The two-day, one-night programme has no listed all-in rate, so the car leg is quoted against your boat times. How to work the car time back from the boat time and the options for waiting or returning are in the guide to the cost of a car to Sa Ky port.

Day 1: out to the island

An illustration, not a fixed schedule, assuming you have booked a boat at about 8:30:

  • About 4:45 to 5:15: the car leaves Da Nang. With 2 hours 30 minutes of driving you reach the port around 7:45, leaving time for the operator’s check-in rules (ask the operator).
  • 8:30: the boat leaves Sa Ky, about 30 to 40 minutes to the island.
  • After landing: check in or leave your bags at your accommodation, then divide your time among the places you choose.

Places most often mentioned on the island (according to public travel guides and press, checked on 3 October 2026; see Saigon Giai Phong on the To Vo arch and Bao Quoc te on Hang pagoda, Thoi Loi peak and the Hoang Sa exhibition house): the To Vo arch, a natural stone arch by the sea that has been ranked a national monument; Hang pagoda; Thoi Loi peak, the island’s highest volcanic mountain at about 170 m with a flagpole; and the Hoang Sa Flotilla exhibition house. This guide does not give opening hours or ticket prices because sources disagree and they change by season. Getting around the island and renting a vehicle there are for you to ask your accommodation; Sun Travel only serves the road leg.

Day 2: the small island, then back to the mainland

  • Morning: you can go to the small island (An Binh) by speedboat if the weather allows; the guides list swimming, basket boats and coral viewing. Going to the small island depends on sea conditions that day, so keep a reserve.
  • Afternoon: back to Ly Son port, then the boat returns to Sa Ky. Send the return boat time so dispatch can arrange the pickup at the port.
  • Evening: the car takes you to Da Nang or Hoi An; use the 2 hours 30 minutes and 2 hours 12 minutes of the rate table as a reference for the way back. If the return boat is late, count the arrival time as well.

Weather and a reserve

Boat schedules can change with sea conditions and weather, so do not book a flight or an important appointment close to your return time. Follow announcements from the boat operator and the port management, and ask in advance what happens if a boat is postponed. Confirm with the boat operator which identity documents you need to carry.

What to send to settle the car schedule

  • The Da Nang or Hoi An pickup; cars can enter the gates of hotels and resorts to pick up and drop off.
  • The outbound and return boat times you have booked and the operator.
  • The number of passengers, the number of suitcases and the 4-, 7- or 16-seat vehicle.
  • Whether the car should wait at the port or come back to collect you.

The base rate for each route includes fuel, road tolls and parking fees. The driver’s overnight stay, waiting time and the return leg are not included automatically and are set out in the quote. Boat tickets, accommodation and services on the island are for you to book. General preparation for an island trip is in the guide to a private car to Sa Ky port for Ly Son island, and airport pickup is covered in the guide to reaching Sa Ky port from Da Nang and Chu Lai airports.
