Sun Travel’s rate table lists Da Nang to Mang Den at about 240 km and 5 hours each way, so two days and one night is the shortest frame that still leaves an afternoon and a morning on the plateau: the first day for the road and a stroll around the town, the second for one or two stops before heading back to Da Nang. From 3 October 2026 this round-trip programme has its own rate for both directions by vehicle size, shown in the rate box below. This guide lays out each day, names the sights with sources and lists what to confirm before booking.

The plan for two days and one night

An illustration, not a fixed schedule; the exact times are confirmed by dispatch for your travel date.

Day Suggested time What happens Notes
1 6:30 The car collects you at your Da Nang (or Hoi An) hotel Cars can enter the gates of hotels and resorts to pick up and drop off
1 6:30 to about 12:00 Drive up to Mang Den, about 5 hours in the rate table plus 1 to 2 rest stops The usual direction is Highway 24 over the Violak pass; dispatch confirms the real route
1 About 12:30 Lunch, check-in Check-in time is set by your accommodation
1 14:00 to 17:30 Dak Ke lake, the wooden statue garden, the chapel with the Virgin Mary statue Pick two of the three for an easy pace
1 Evening Overnight in Mang Den Bring a light jacket
2 7:30 Breakfast, check-out
2 8:30 to 11:00 Pa Sy waterfall or Khanh Lam pagoda Choose one, or both if the distance allows
2 About 11:30 Leave Mang Den Leave around midday so the pass is driven in daylight
2 About 17:30 to 18:00 Back in Da Nang or Hoi An About 5 hours of driving plus a rest stop

This is an editorial suggestion: leaving Mang Den too late puts the return on the mountain road in the evening, so work the departure back from the time you must be home.

The sights, with sources

According to the VnExpress travel guide (updated 22 February 2026) and Wikipedia (the chapel):

  • Dak Ke lake: about 3 ha, in the centre of the town, with boating and pedal boats.
  • The wooden statue garden: about 100 works by artisans of the local ethnic groups.
  • The chapel with the Virgin Mary statue: built in 1971 and a place of pilgrimage for Catholics; dress appropriately for a place of worship.
  • Pa Sy waterfall: formed by three streams, at an elevation of about 1,500 m.
  • Khanh Lam pagoda: with a Guanyin statue 17 m high.

Mang Den lies at about 1,200 m with an average temperature of 17.0 to 22.7 °C (according to Wikipedia), so mornings and evenings call for a light jacket. Distances between the sights and opening hours have no official source, so ask on the spot; any admission is charged by each site.

The programme rate and how to read it

The rate box at the top is the round-trip programme rate for 2 days and 1 night by 4-, 7- or 16-seat vehicle, applying from 3 October 2026. How to read it:

  • It is a rate for the whole two-way trip in the plan above, not a one-way rate. The one-way entry from Da Nang or Hoi An to Mang Den is still its own rate; see the guide to the cost of a private car to Mang Den when you only need one direction.
  • In the rate: fuel, road tolls, parking fees on the route and the fee for the driver to stay overnight in Mang Den.
  • Not in the rate: the guests’ accommodation, meals, admission tickets or boat tickets.
  • Discuss beforehand: multi-stop driving beyond the plan above, for example extra stops or a trip on to Kon Tum (about 60 km from Mang Den, which lengthens the return); the specific terms are set out in the quote or trip confirmation. For a longer plan, including Kon Tum, see the Da Nang, Mang Den, Kon Tum 3-day, 2-night itinerary.
  • Extra days must be notified in advance: if you want to stay longer, tell Sun Travel before you confirm the trip so dispatch can arrange the car and driver; the specific terms are confirmed in the quote or trip confirmation.

The rate is per vehicle, so the cost per person depends on how many people are travelling. The vehicle size is chosen by the number of passengers and the number and size of the bags; the exact vehicle, including the model, is confirmed for each trip.

Road and weather

Typhoon and heavy-rain weather on the Central coast usually runs from about September to December. Highway 24 has had landslides: according to the newspaper Tien Phong on 23 November 2025, about 400 cubic metres of earth and rock fell at km 112+200 in Mang Den commune and paralysed traffic. This is an example of the risk, not a forecast for the day you travel. When a heavy-rain warning is issued, ask about rebooking terms before you confirm. The guide to the Lo Xo pass driving experience explains why Lo Xo pass is not on the Highway 24 road up to Mang Den.

What to send so the plan can be settled

  • The pickup (Da Nang or Hoi An) and your accommodation in Mang Den if you have chosen it.
  • The date you go, the date you return and the time you must be home.
  • The number of passengers, anyone prone to car sickness, the number of suitcases and the 4-, 7- or 16-seat vehicle.
  • The sights you want to prioritise on day two, and any extra stop or extra day you want, if any.

The one-way rate and route information are on the page for a private car from Da Nang and Hoi An to Mang Den; the scope of longer rentals is on the page for long-term car rental with a driver.

Common questions about the 2-day, 1-night private car programme from Da Nang to Mang Den

Is two days and one night enough to see Mang Den?

Each direction is about 5 hours of driving in the rate table, so day one keeps an afternoon and day two a morning. The suggested plan has two stops on day one and one or two on day two; for more stops, consider three days and two nights.

What does the round-trip Mang Den programme rate include?

The rate includes fuel, road tolls, parking fees on the route and the fee for the driver to stay overnight, for both directions of the 2-day, 1-night plan. Guests' accommodation, meals and admission tickets are not in the rate.

Can the two-day Mang Den programme add stops or go on to Kon Tum?

Multi-stop driving is possible but needs to be discussed beforehand so dispatch can plan it. Kon Tum is about 60 km from Mang Den and makes the way back longer, so a two-day plan gets tight; three days and two nights suits it better. Extra days must be notified in advance.

Do all three vehicle sizes have a rate in the Mang Den programme?

Yes, the rate box lists all three: 4-, 7- and 16-seat. The size is chosen by the number of passengers and the number and size of the bags; the exact vehicle and its suitability for the road up to Mang Den are confirmed for each trip.
